1  HOTEL / SOUTH BEACH (former Perry Hotel and Gansevoort Hotel) Miami South Beach  /  2377 Collins Resort, South Beach, Miami, Florida – (30,000 sf) for Starwood Capital & LeFrak Organization (2012)

  • Principal Design Director commissioned by Starwood to provide ideas for a new hotel concept at a Miami resort.

  • Selected as 1 of 3 finalists to compete in and present the redesign of the resort property, newly acquired by Starwood

  • Designed an “eco-chic” hotel concept that incorporated verdant living walls, organic layout and materials

  • Presented to Barry Sternlicht, CEO Starwood Capital Group, Jamie LeFrak, CEO LeFrak Org, and other stakeholders

  • Commissioned to develop and present a proposal, narrative book, and schematic layouts and furniture selections for the lobby, library, lounge, guest rooms, pool deck, and cabanas.

  • Outlined scope of work, schedule, costs, and staff needs. Managed consultants to assist with the presentation.

  • The living wall concept now adorns the facade of 1 Hotels worldwide.

43 Ocean Road  /  Bridgehampton, New York (2009):

  • Green Building Consultant + LEED for Homes Project Manager for Modern Green Home

  • Coordinated the LEED for Homes process with the architect, engineers, energy consultant, and client progress from schematics through construction documents for a residence in Long Island. 

  • Design target was a LEED Platinum Rating.

LEED AP Exam Prep Instructor  /  Brooklyn, New York (2009):

  • Taught individuals and groups of students the various sections of the LEED AP exam

  • 100% of students passed the exam on their first attempt

Green Canteen Restaurant + Offices + Green Roof  /  106 N. 6th St., Brooklyn, NY (2008):

  • Principal Architectural Designer + LEED Project Manager; Lead project team from Schematics through Construction.

  • Designed the restaurant to a LEED CI Silver rating for the prototype of nationwide chain of eco-friendly restaurants

  • Coordinated energy efficiency solutions with AFK engineers in MEP and lighting design

Random House Bertelsmann   /  1745 Broadway, New York, New York (2007): 

  • Green Building Consultant + LEED Project Manager for LiRo Group

  • Coordinated the LEED for Existing Buildings (EB) submission with the client, facilities management, building vendors, energy consultant, and building engineer of the 20+ story high- rise in Manhattan. 

  • First Awarded LEED Certification in 2008.

Morgan Stanley  /  522 Fifth Avenue, New York, New York (2007):  

  • Green Building Consultant + LEED Project Manager for LiRo Group

  • Coordinated the LEED for Commercial Interiors (CI) filing for the interior fit-out renovation of the 30+ story high-rise.

  • Services included facilitating consensus- driven goal setting through “green” design charrettes, tracking strategies and by providing on-going research and coordination to assist the team to implement their goals. 

  • Developed a teaching program on how kids can the help save the planet through everyday decisions at home and school.

  • Lead 200+ children of Morgan’s employees through presentation for “Take Your Daughters and Sons to Work Day”

BlackRock Capital Management / 55 East 52nd Street, New York, NY (2006)

  • Green Building Consultant to co-facilitate green-strategy workshop with LiRo Group

  • Consulted the investment bank’s U.S. division to establish environmentally responsible goals, such as meeting the “Equator Principles”, and to identify opportunities for company-wide implementation.

Oulu Bar + EcoLounge / 160 N. 4th St., Brooklyn, NY (2006):

  • Principal Architectural Designer + Sustainability Project Manager; Lead project from Schematics through Construction.

  • Coached contractors how to specify and build FSC-certified millwork with low-VOC varnishes, paints, adhesives, etc. 

  • Designed bar to follow LEED principles with an emphasis on materials and resources and indoor air quality.

  • Designed and installed the first vertically irrigated “living wall” in New York City.

9/11 Tribute Visitors Center / 120 Liberty St., New York, NY (2006):  

  • Designed sustainable interim memorial as a ground floor visitor’s center for 9/11 at Ground Zero of the World Trade Center

  • Augmented CSI specifications to incorporate LEED-based materials. 

  • Coordinated energy-efficient MEP into architectural set with AKF Engineers.

City of New York Green Infrastructure Guidelines - New York, NY (2006):

  • Provided research on infrastructure topics and graphic design layouts for New Civic Works on a freelance basis.

Poet’s House - Battery Park City, New York, NY (2005): 

  • Green Consultant to provide on-going materials and specifications related research.  

  • Participated in facilitated green building workshops in collaboration with entire design team, including New Civic Works and the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation (LMDC).

State University of New York - University at Buffalo, Green Office - Buffalo, New York (2003-04):

  • Developed a template for system-wide guidance document to implement New York State Executive Order 111. 

  • Researched and disseminated green guidelines content on technical topics including sustainable sites, architectural design for sustainability, water efficiency, indoor environmental quality, building lighting, equipment, mechanical systems, and materials and resources.  

  • Coordinated specialty chapters with State University of New York Construction Fund, Dormitory Authority of the State of New York, New York State Energy Research Development Authority and Steven Winter Associates. 

  • Designed editorial layout, copyedited multiple text versions, and coordinated the paperback and electronic production of the 150+ page publication.

School Construction Authority at City of New Haven, Connecticut (2003-05):

  • Green Building Consultant and Project Manager for over ten K-12 schools

  • Consultant to facilitate a multi-disciplinary approach to implement green guidelines, benchmark at project milestones, analyze costs, and achieve Energy Star Targets for a portfolio of grade schools in the City of New Haven, including a LEED certified environmental magnet school. 

  • Other green building consulting services included project development through technical and administrative support and workshop facilitation. Working knowledge of energy efficiency technologies and green building materials. 

  • Co-authored the high-performance building guidelines that were implemented by New Haven Schools by researching and disseminating green technical topics including sustainable sites, architectural design for sustainability, water efficiency, indoor environmental quality, building lighting, equipment, mechanical systems, and materials and resources. 

Barnard Environmental Magnet School (2004-05) (provided all services listed above for New Haven, as well as):

  • Green Building Consultant and LEED Project Manager

  • Served as LEED contact and liaison between the U.S. Green Building Council and Roberta Washington Architects.  

  • Provided detailed LEED Credit feasibility study at each project phase, which included reports analyzing schematic design and construction documents, thereby increasing likelihood of achieving LEED points. 

  • Compared financial premiums of LEED Credits. 

  • Edited specifications manual for appropriate LEED language. 

Kresge Foundation and the Non-Profit Finance Fund : New York, NY (2003): 

  • Assisted in the film production of an instructional and documentary video to teach non-profits how to facilitate the green building process, including scenery and lighting at film locations. 

  • Coordinated interviews and produced transcripts from non-profit clients, their staff and architects about their experiences with the green building process.  

Sustainable Design Collaborative (SDC) :  New York, NY (2003)

  • Tracked credits for LEED analysis charrettes for various educational and health care projects on a freelance basis.

  • Liaison between green consultant and design team for proposals.

  • Assisted in pilot project to develop green product specification software.

  • Augmented CSI specifications with sustainability criteria to become LEED compatible

  • Provided principal with marketing and business development assistance

  • Represented SDC at green building conferences in Albany, NY and Pittsburg, PA.

Niagara University, Student Union Building and Performance Theater : Niagara County, NY – 65,000 sf (2002): 

  • Provided schematic design and code compliance drawings for University Student Union Building and Performance Theater as a freelance consultant.

  • Kept minutes for LEED workshops and tracked possible LEED credits for the architect, Rosenbaum Sollohub Architects.
